Valuation-Insurance Options

When it comes to moving, making sure that your move is properly insured is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. You have to take in consideration not only the belongings being moved, but the safety and wellbeing of the movers performing the move as well as integrity of the property from which or to which the belongings are moved. This is why when it comes to choosing a mover; you must make sure that the mover you choose is a licensed moving company. Because only a licensed mover can legally obtain the appropriate insurance coverage as required by law in California. (learn more here)

When it comes to insuring your belongings (this is frequently called valuation), My Moving Guys provides the basic moving insurance which is effective the moment our movers first handle your belongings and until your items reach your final destination.

However, our coverage provided at no cost to you is only basic standard coverage of $0.60 per pound per article as required by the California Household Goods Carrier Act and the California Public Utilities Commission and their MAX 4 Tariff. Since this is a basic coverage you need to understand that, if your 30 pound flat-screen TV is damaged, we’re required to reimburse in the amount of $18.00 ($0.60 x 30 pounds = $18.00). Therefore, we highly recommend purchasing additional moving insurance coverage (a “third party insurance”) which you can obtain through www.emoveinsurance.com or any other similar insurance company. Usually moving insurance companies offer very affordable move polices between 1% to 2% of the total value of your item(s) while insuring them for their full value.

Full coverage of your belongings is your responsibility to arrange for and is not offered by My Moving Guys. My Moving Guys will take all precautions and exercise the proper care to avoid damages to your belongings. In the event the damages do occur, we require the customer and crew to discuss the matter immediately to determine the cause. If it is determined that the subject damage is a result of a mistake on the part of My Moving Guys, every attempt will be made to assess the amount of damage and have it properly fixed as soon as possible. If an amount can be agreed upon between BOTH parties, the matter will be settled promptly.

If the amount cannot be settled upon by the move’s completion, the total cost of the subject move (based on the invoice prepared by the crew) must be paid by the customer in full and without any deductions and a written claim for the damages must be filed. My Moving Guys representatives will offer you any help with the filing of such a claim, if the need arises. The established rules and regulations in the State of California governing the moving companies conduct do require a filing of a written claim only after the move is fully completed and fully paid for by the Customer. Once the claim is submitted, My Moving Guys will cooperate fully with the customer to make sure the damages are repaired to the Customer’s satisfaction or the Customer is otherwise compensated for such damages in full compliance with the law

California Public Utilities Commission regulations outline that movers CANNOT be held responsible for valuable items, such as cash, jewelry, documents, etc., so please make arrangements to transport these items personally.
